On 30th September, KLE Technological University hosted an inspiring talk by eminent astrophysicist Dr. Ajit Kembhavi, former Director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune.

Dr. Prakash Tewari, Vice Chancellor of KLE Tech, and Dr. Uma Mudenagudi, Dean R&D, felicitated Dr. Kembhavi to mark the beginning of the much-anticipated event.

The auditorium soon fell silent as Dr. Kembhavi delivered a captivating talk on how Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are transforming modern astronomy and reshaping our understanding of the universe. He began with an analogy comparing an AI facility in China—which he recently visited—to KLE Tech’s own infrastructure, expressing optimism about India’s future in technology and innovation.

He explained AI fundamentals such as algorithms, neural networks, transformers, generative AI, and large language models with remarkable clarity. Visual diagrams helped the audience understand Artificial Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks before he shifted focus to the interplay between astronomy and massive datasets used to decode galaxies, star systems, and black holes.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Kembhavi encouraged students to embrace AI as a self-driven journey and remain curious.

The session concluded with a Q&A and closing notes from Prof. B. L. Desai, Executive Dean, who highlighted the significance of the discussion.
It was a memorable morning filled with science, technology, and profound insights.

IEEE Conference on Engineering Informatics (ICEI 2024)

The IEEE Conference on Engineering Informatics 2024 (ICEI 2024) was held from 26–28 November 2024, jointly organized by IIT Dharwad, IIIT Dharwad, and KLE Technological University.

ICEI 2024 is a premier scientific conference bringing together researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to showcase innovation and advancements in engineering informatics and digital practices.

The event featured keynote sessions by eminent speakers from academia and industry, pre-conference workshops, industrial presentations, and networking opportunities. ICEI 2024 is a continuation of the conference held earlier at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia (20–21 November 2024).

The conference bridges multiple engineering disciplines—computer science, electrical, electronics, mechanical, civil—and covers cutting-edge developments in 5G/6G, manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, mechatronics, construction, and more.

At the 6th Annual Convocation of KLE Technological University, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, delivered an inspiring address emphasizing the crucial role of India’s youth in shaping the nation’s technological and research future.

He highlighted India’s transformative initiatives, including:

  • The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) with a ₹1 lakh crore research fund
  • The National Mission on Quantum Technologies & Applications
  • The Digital India initiative
  • Increased support and participation of women in STEM through programs like WOS Scheme and GATI

A total of 1,367 degrees, including 293 PG and 17 PhDdegrees, were awarded, along with37 medals

5th Convocation Highlights

The 5th Convocation of KLE Technological University, Hubballi was a momentous celebration of academic excellence, inspiring speeches, and institutional achievements.

The chief guest, Padma Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar, former Chairman of ISRO, emphasized the importance of embracing emerging technologies and urged students to remain diligent and committed to learning. He highlighted India’s rapid progress across sectors and its projected rise as the world’s third-largest economy, presenting immense opportunities for the youth. Kumar also spoke about India’s ambitious plan to establish its own space station by 2030, opening new pathways for startups, engineers, and researchers.

Dr. Ashok Shettar, Vice Chancellor, highlighted the university’s rapid progress in research, sports, and student achievements. He applauded KLE Tech students for excelling in leading companies and representing the institution as strong brand ambassadors.

The convocation was officially opened by Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chancellor of KLETU and Chairman of KLE Society. The presence of principals, deans, and department heads added dignity to the event. The awarding of nine Ph.D. degrees added a scholarly milestone to the day.

A total of 1,608 students graduated, including:

  • 1293 Undergraduate students
  • 306 Postgraduate students
  • 9 Ph.D. awardees

Additionally, 14 gold medals and 15 silver medals were presented for outstanding academic performance.

The 5th Convocation stood as a testament to KLE Tech’s commitment to excellence, research, and preparing students for a dynamic technological future.

Innovation Confluence 2024 (IIC Regional Meet)

KLE Technological University, Hubballi, hosted the 16th Regional Institute Innovation Council (IIC) Meeting on January 19, 2024 — a vibrant convergence of academia, industry, and budding innovators.

Dr. Mamta Agarwal, Adviser at AICTE, opened the event with a powerful call for a mindset shift in innovation and continuous learning. She stressed the need for student agility and the importance of multigenerational adaptability in academic ecosystems.

Mr. Dipan Shhu, Assistant Innovation Director at MIC, lauded KLE Tech for fostering a strong innovation and entrepreneurship culture, encouraging institutions to leverage the IIC mentorship scheme.

Dr. Ashok Shettar, Vice Chancellor, emphasized the role of youth in driving startups and innovation, highlighting the responsibility of universities in nurturing entrepreneurial talent.

Welcoming notes were delivered by Dr. B. S. Anami (Registrar), followed by an overview of CTIE’s activities presented by Shivayogi Turmari. A booklet showcasing CTIE initiatives was released.

Other dignitaries included Abhishek Ranjan (Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell) and Prof. B. L. Desai (Executive Dean). The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Uma Mudengudi, Dean (R&D).

The event saw 500+ participants, 50+ exhibitors, 500+ course projects displayed at the Dr. Prabhakar Kore Sports Arena, and 30 startups pitching to angel investors — making it a major platform for collaboration and innovation.

REES-2024 Symposium on Engineering Education

KLE Technological University inaugurated the Regional Engineering Education Symposium (REES-2024) on January 4, 2024 — a three-day event bringing together leading voices in engineering education.

The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. Teresa Hattingh, Chair of REEN, University of Johannesburg, who highlighted REES’s vision of building global, inclusive, independent networks for engineering education research.

ICTIEE & IASF Conferences Inaugurated at KLE Tech

KLE Technological University hosted the Eleventh International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE 2024) and the IUCEE Annual Student Forum (IASF 2024) beginning January 2, 2024.

The theme for the conference was “Systemic Transformation in Engineering Education.”

Highlights:
  • Dr. Ashok Shettar, Vice Chancellor, underscored KLE Tech’s commitment to global educational innovation.
  • Dr. Krishna Vedula (IUCEE) emphasized the need for change agents and global collaboration in engineering education.
  • Prof. S. K. Ramesh (California State University) introduced the CARE model — Collaborative, Accountable, Resilient, Ethical.
  • Michael Milligan, CEO, ABET, urged educators to address global challenges through STEM education.
  • Dr. Gopalkrishna Joshi shared milestones of KLE Tech’s journey toward autonomy and excellence.

The event featured workshops, paper presentations, plenaries, and bootcamps.

IASF began with a bootcamp led by Ms. Sampada Pachuary, followed by sessions from 14 distinguished mentors including experts from India, Austria, Australia, and the industry.

Over 300 delegates from India and abroad participated, making the conference a major platform for learning and collaboration.
