Data Science and AI in Astronomy and Astrophysics (Talk by Dr. Ajit Kembhavi)

On 30th September, KLE Technological University hosted an inspiring talk by eminent astrophysicist Dr. Ajit Kembhavi, former Director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune.

Dr. Prakash Tewari, Vice Chancellor of KLE Tech, and Dr. Uma Mudenagudi, Dean R&D, felicitated Dr. Kembhavi to mark the beginning of the much-anticipated event.

The auditorium soon fell silent as Dr. Kembhavi delivered a captivating talk on how Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are transforming modern astronomy and reshaping our understanding of the universe. He began with an analogy comparing an AI facility in China—which he recently visited—to KLE Tech’s own infrastructure, expressing optimism about India’s future in technology and innovation.

He explained AI fundamentals such as algorithms, neural networks, transformers, generative AI, and large language models with remarkable clarity. Visual diagrams helped the audience understand Artificial Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks before he shifted focus to the interplay between astronomy and massive datasets used to decode galaxies, star systems, and black holes.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Kembhavi encouraged students to embrace AI as a self-driven journey and remain curious.

The session concluded with a Q&A and closing notes from Prof. B. L. Desai, Executive Dean, who highlighted the significance of the discussion.
It was a memorable morning filled with science, technology, and profound insights.

Recent Technologies & Gen AI: Talk by Mr. Praveen Karadiguddi

Mr. Praveen Karadiguddi shared the story behind naming their company Scrum-Connect, the inspiration behind founding it with his wife Mrs. Shilpa Karadiguddi, and the challenges they overcame.

  • The company’s major contributions to UK government projects
  • High citizen satisfaction rates
  • Gen AI’s growing role in jobs, entrepreneurship, and future opportunities

He also emphasized the importance of “Knowing the Why” and guided students through a self-reflection activity on their 5-year vision.

The session highlighted the importance of entrepreneurial thinking and continuous development.

Technical Talk on ISOC Awareness

The Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence organized a technical talk on “Internet Society (ISOC) Awareness for Student Development” by Mr. Adarsh B.U, Secretary, ISOC India – Bengaluru Chapter.

Mr. Adarsh, a Technical Solutions Consultant at Happiest Minds and a two-time “IoT Thought Leader,” discussed:

  • ISOC’s global mission
  • Opportunities for students — fellowships, certifications, networking
  • Platforms like ICANN and ISOC for contributing to global internet standards

He encouraged students to leverage these opportunities to enhance their skills, gain internships, and connect globally.

Women in IT: Talk by Mrs. Shilpa Karadiguddi

Mrs. Shilpa Karadiguddi delivered an insightful session on women’s participation in the IT industry, highlighting the existing gender gap despite strong talent and capability.

She emphasized that women often meet 8 out of 10 job prerequisites, while men apply after meeting only 3 out of 10, noting the issue is often self-doubt rather than skill.

She encouraged women to be confident, pursue their aspirations, and break stereotypes. She also shared how Scrum-Connect promotes equal opportunities and provides supportive workplace policies for women.

Her inspiring talk resonated with many in the audience.
