On 30th September, KLE Technological University hosted an inspiring talk by eminent astrophysicist Dr. Ajit Kembhavi, former Director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune.

Dr. Prakash Tewari, Vice Chancellor of KLE Tech, and Dr. Uma Mudenagudi, Dean R&D, felicitated Dr. Kembhavi to mark the beginning of the much-anticipated event.

The auditorium soon fell silent as Dr. Kembhavi delivered a captivating talk on how Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are transforming modern astronomy and reshaping our understanding of the universe. He began with an analogy comparing an AI facility in China—which he recently visited—to KLE Tech’s own infrastructure, expressing optimism about India’s future in technology and innovation.

He explained AI fundamentals such as algorithms, neural networks, transformers, generative AI, and large language models with remarkable clarity. Visual diagrams helped the audience understand Artificial Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks before he shifted focus to the interplay between astronomy and massive datasets used to decode galaxies, star systems, and black holes.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Kembhavi encouraged students to embrace AI as a self-driven journey and remain curious.

The session concluded with a Q&A and closing notes from Prof. B. L. Desai, Executive Dean, who highlighted the significance of the discussion.
It was a memorable morning filled with science, technology, and profound insights.
